Primarily a residential landscape designer, I loved being in the business for over thirty years, with more than two decades of those years spent working with homeowners and contractors in Central Virginia.
Having transplanted to Western North Carolina I am now retired from the vocation for others but continue to enjoy gardening at home.

Rivanna House, Earlysville, VA
A metaphor was exercised throughout the Rivanna house landscape design: the home’s relationship to the Rivanna River below. A large retaining wall that helps to define the front yard, was interrupted by a constructed water feature with shrubs and perennials tumbling alongside. The step stones and walk ways continue the feeling of river flow around the garden and home. Native plants are integrated with exotics to provide a naturalistic landscape, softening this beautiful Craftsman style renovation.

Farm terracing
Piney River residence, VA
With terracing a sloped yard can be sculpted into different garden spaces, allowing a more private space for the cottage above, as well as an entertainment lawn for the main house below. A stone wall ties to the history of the place while providing visual interest. Seasonal change is expressed in the perennial border.
